Flying Machine by Karin Taylor - We travel through time every day! That makes us all TIME TRAVELLERS!!!!!

Flying Machine is my latest effort. Fascination with flying, transport, boats, planes, tricycles, carts, etc.... so am starting to employ them in my paintings as a metaphor for our journey through life. Flying Machine is about one quarter of the way there!
Karin Taylor is currently represented by Vivid Fine Art Fine Jewellery Lennox Head

A couple of new ones - blueprints/drafts for future paintings - by Karin Taylor

These two are still to be painted, but here are they are at the drawing stage.

Paper Dolls

Harvest Moon

Heart of Gold by Karin Taylor - A Medieval Tale of Hope and Longing

Heart of Gold is a new painting I've been working on, in some ways it was inspired by Bryce Courtney's novel 'Sylvia' about a young woman who took part in the historical 'Children's Crusades'
from Germany to the Holy Land. The idea was that the young children would go and get the Holy Sepulchture (spelling?) from the Holy Land (less the bloodshed of the previous Crusades) but it ended in tragedy, with thousands of children dying from hunger and disease etc.

This painting represents the heart that is searching, long suffering, on a quest to find it's true counterpart, the heart that loves and is concerned with truth, honesty, humility, purity and selflessness - rare traits, considered treasures if found in human nature

Midnight Blues by Karin Taylor - My Tribute to Brett Whitely

Midnight Blues is the latest painting I've been working on, and am entering it in Border ARt Prize at the Gold Coast City ARt Gallery......I think the exhibition opens early October and runs for a few weeks. Look forward to seeing this one framed under glass.....deep blue matt and midnight blue frame, which should dramatise and enhance the painting. Had a bit of a problem when I took it to the framer, unfortunately paint wasn't quite dry and some peeled off....now it's back to me for some repairs in my studio. Currently we are having storms and high winds, so can't get out the back to the studio with it....will have to wait til weather calms down a bit.

The painting previously looked like this:

'Seasons' -To Every Thing There is a Season - Ecclesiastes 3. 1-8

My latest painting, 'Seasons' ..it represents my family, myself and God

TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON - Ecclesiastes 3. 1-8

To every thing there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

Hidden Treasure completed
The golden eggs really catch the light

This painting represents me as a little girl..
We lived in Tottenham, western NSW, when I was about 3 years old.
My Dad was just like Steve Irwin and also a police officer in a one-man police town!
We had a real menagerie of animals and pets there, including chooks, baby foxes which used to nip at my ankles, turkeys, snakes, googies (goannas), birds, etc. Dad was a great snake handler and lover of wildlife, having grown up roaming in the beautiful Katoomba mountain area.....what a wonderful life!

triptych

I don't usually paint abstracts....but I did this one for our dining area as it's in need of an update, it fits in nicely with the surrounding colours and lifts the room a little

fatty boomsticks

This is the cute tubby cousin of my three willowy sisters....
I nicknamed him fatty boomsticks, due to his very thick trunk....
just wanted to hug him, but he's a bit too prickly!

three sisters of lennox point

THREE SISTERS of lennox point
Legend has it according to an Aboriginal dreamtime story, that the three huge rocks formation at Katoomba were once three beautiful sisters named "Meehni", "Wimlah" and "Gunnedoo" from the Katoomba tribe. The three sisters fell in love with three brothers from the Nepean tribe but their tribal laws forbade their marriage. The three brothers did not accept this law and tried to capture the three sisters by force. This caused a major tribal battle and the lives of the three sisters were thus threatened. A witchdoctor decided to turn the sisters into rocks in order to protect them and thought to reverse the spell only after the battle. Unfortunately, he was killed in the battle and the three sisters remained as the enormous and beautiful rock formations until today. The magnificent formation stands at 922m, 918m, and 906m respectively.

I like to think that my 'three sisters' are enjoying the beautiful view and living and breathing unlike the poor three sisters at Katoomba who were turned into rocks!

Lennox Point

Lennox Point

Isn't this gorgeous. I took this pic a coupla days ago at Lennox Point, it's just a vine growing up a slim trunk but it made for great composition.
Wasn't till I got home and uploaded it that I realised just how beautiful
the natural world around me really is. This is not a man-made structure at all..... God-made....wow

desiderata

Desiderata
written by Max Ehrmann in the 1920s

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons
Speak your truth quietly and clearly'
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and
lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden
misfortune. But do not distress yourself with
dark imaginings. Many fears are born of
fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore, be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

sadako's wish by Karin Taylor (won a prize!!!)

Here is a painting I did in response to the story of Sadako. One day my daughter Sarah bought home a little sheet of paper with the story of Sadako on it and I was deeply moved by the tragic story of her life. You can read all about Sadako at the link below, just brieflythough, Sadako was a little baby when the atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, by the age of 11 years she had lost her fight for life due to leukaemia, a result of the radiation from the bomb. She tried hard to be cheerful and dreamed of living a long life. A little friend of hers suggested that she make 1000 paper cranes, as legend had it that doing this could make your dreams come true. Sadako died, but her courageous effort lives on in the hearts of everyone everywhere who hears her story of hope, faith and determination. www.sadako.org/sadakostory.htm

This picture is all about Sadako being taken up into heaven at the moment of her passing from this life to the next. There are a few symbols in this painting that represent different things. The wings indicate Sadako has a heavenly body now, and you can see Sadako is actually affixing them to herself as she accepts her fate. The magic carpet is taking her up to heaven. The little doll is her companion in this life and the next, similar idea to the ancient egyptians who placed belongings of the deceased with them inside the pyramids for comfort in the next life, the circles in the background represent glowing light emanating from the black stars in the sky, guiding her way to her new destination. There is an air of both sadness and triumph...leaving this world is sad, but entering the next healed and whole is triumphant.

This painting won a prize at an exhibition in Tweed Heads last year.

peace offering

I've begun my next painting 'Peace Offering'....still a long way to go with this one, but you get the idea.....there is some lovely rose gold in this painting... also tiny beads are stuck around her hair bun

I probably have a few more sittings to go......stay tuned!

Russian Nesting Dolls

Here are some of my wonderful pressies!
I received 2 nesting dolls from Nenek & Poppy, which I just adore....but look what else! A set of 7 blanks to make my own matryoshka doll designs, how cool is that!

In the pic you can see my son Ben holding up my gorgeous new bag by Chris (yarnaboutyarn - see the link on the sidebar to Chris's blog) who is such a wonderful friend. This bag is made from sari silk and is to die for! I am so lucky, my husband bought it for me from Chris for my birthday.

I also received the most beautiful book of fairy outfits made out of leaves and twigs etc...it is exquisite eye candy, thanx Chris. I'm a lucky girl :)

Birthday pix

This is one of the first photos I took on my birthday with my new canon camera. I had fun feeding the seagulls and capturing them up close and personal!

STRESS LESS 'Sunbather' by Karin Taylor

This was one of my first and favourite paintings 'Sunbather'. I haven't seen it in a while now, it sold so long ago.....I wish this was me.....relaxing at the beach..

sea star sculpture created by Karin Taylor at Wategos Beach Byron Bay

This is a stone seastar sculpture I did at Wategos Beach, Byron Bay back in 2002. I was just sitting on the beach watching my husband and children play in the ocean and I noticed a large pile of stones behind me......I couldn't help myself and spent the next hour or so making this....it's quite large, each stone was at least the size of the palm of my hand and you may see a footprint if you look closely...
You can see more of my paintings and more about me at www.karintaylor.webhop.org/
